Born in Nancy, France in July 1927, Colin's life was one of commitment to the arts. He was a stage designer, credited with designing over 800 sets. In 1927, he published an edition of the lithographs he had made of dancer Josephine Baker and her revue in Paris in 1927, quickly selling over 500 copies. Colin, the posterist, knows that he must arrest our attention and he does this principally with the appearance of movement. There are posterists who have executed their works with great intelligence and insight. There are posterists who have created posters with a popular feel. Then there is Colin, who exemplifies both traits, bringing an independent spirit and sensitive intellect to bear with such singular force as to make its appeal universal.
